You would expect this rather in Russia, than in Bulgaria! The explanation is that it was built as a dedication to soldiers who died at the nearby Shipka pass during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-78). The ornate fairytale-like buiding, with it's glittering golden roof, looks centuries old, but was built in fact in 1902.
